1.Blind people also dream.
People who become blind after
birth can see images in their dreams. People who are born blind do not see any
images, but have dreams equally vivid involving their other senses of sound,
smell, touch and emotion. It is hard for a seeing person to imagine, but the
body’s need for sleep is so strong that it is able to handle virtually all
physical situations to make it happen.
2. You forget almost all of your
dream
Often when we wake up we fail to
remember even a single sequence of the dream we had during the night. A strange
fact remains therefore, that dreams are almost always forgotten, except if a
person is woken up at the REM stage. Within 5 minutes of waking, half of your
dream if forgotten. Within 10, 90% is gone. Interestingly enough, if you are
awakened out of REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep, you are more likely to remember
your dream in a more vivid way than you would if you woke from a full night
sleep.
3.Men dream more about other men.
Men tend to dream more about
other men, while women tend to dream equally about men and women.
4. Some people dream in black and
white
Some people dream only in black
and white while about 70% of people dream in colors. Certain dreams are very
common to some people such as, failing an exam, getting up late for the exam,
dreams related to one's school, seeing a person dead who is alive in real life,
being chasedby someone etc. Studies are being conducted in the relevance of
colors and repeated sequences in dreams.
5.Quiters experience more vivid
dreams
People who have smoked cigarettes
for a long time who stop, have reported much more vivid dreams than they would
normally experience. Additionally, according to the Journal of Abnormal
Psychology: “Among 293 smokers abstinent for between 1 and 4 weeks, 33%
reported having at least 1 dream about smoking. In most dreams, subjects caught
themselves smoking and felt strong negative emotions, such as panic and guilt.
Dreams about smoking were the result of tobacco withdrawal, as 97% of subjects
did not have them while smoking, and their occurrence was significantly related
to the duration of abstinence. They were rated as more vivid than the usual
dreams and were as commonas most major tobacco withdrawal symptoms.”
6.During REM sleep the body is
paralyzed by a mechanism in the brain in order to prevent the movements which
occur in the dream from causing the physical body to move. However, it is
possible for this mechanism to be triggered before, during, or after normal
sleep while the brain awakens. Glands begin to secrete a hormone that helps
induce sleep and neurons send signals to the spinal cord which cause the body
to relax and later become essentially paralyzed.
7. You can control your dreams.
If you're interested in lucid
dreaming, you may want to take up video gaming. The link? Both represent
alternate realities, said Jayne Gackenbach, a psychologist at Grant MacEwan
University in Canada. "If you're spending hours a day in a virtual
reality, if nothing else it's practice, "Gackenbach told LiveScience in
2010. "Gamers are used to controlling their game environments, so that can
translate into dreams. "Her past research has shown that people who
frequently play video games are more likely than non-gamers to have lucid
dreams where they view themselves from outside their bodies; they were also
better able to influence their dream worlds, as if controlling a video-game
character. That level of control may also help gamers turn a bloodcurdling
nightmare into a carefree dream, she found in a 2008 study. This ability could
help war veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD),
Gackenbach reasoned.
8.Sex
As in their wake hours, men also
dream about sex more than women do. You can not only have sex as pleasurable as
in your real life while dreaming , but also experience an orgasm as strong as a
real one without any wet results. The sensations felt while lucid dreaming
(touch, pleasure and etc..) can be as pleasurable and strong or even stronger
as the sensations experienced in the real world.
